Job description

Janssen Research & Development discovers and develops innovative medical solutions to address important unmet medical needs in neuroscience, cardiovascular diseases and metabolism, infectious diseases, immunology, oncology, and pulmonary hypertension. The Janssen European organization covers the complete drug development life cycle, with all capabilities from basic science to market access. The Janssen Medicinal Chemistry team in Toledo, near Madrid (Spain), has a successful track record of deliveries over thirty years in drug discovery and currently focusses on developing innovative small molecule therapeutics to treat diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, various types of cancers and infectious diseases.
The Toledo Chemistry Capabilities team, fully embedded within Discovery Teams, is focused on developing new methodologies beyond current state-of-the-art to expand the chemical space accessible to drug discovery medicinal chemistry teams in a n automated manner. To achieve this goal a broad range of modern chemical technologies, including automated flow chemistry, Photochemistry and electrochemistry are used to identify, synthesize and optimize new molecular entities.
We are currently looking for a highly skilled and motivated Ph D student to explore novel methodologies using flow photochemistry to be applied to drug discovery (ESR). H2020
PhotoReAct project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie ITN grant agreement No 956324.

APPOINTMENT AND SALARY

Researchers employed within PhotoReAct will receive salary and benefits at the rates stipulated by the European Commission for Marie Curie researchers. The Researchers will be employed via full employment contracts with the respective institutions, carrying social benefits such as pension and social security, but also subject to normal taxes. There will be an evaluation after one year.

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor or master’s degree in synthetic organic chemistry or chemical engineering. Be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers and have not been awarded a doctoral degree.
  • Good oral and written communication in English.
  • Good teamwork skills, able to build constructive suggestions for existing problems.
  • Applicants must also meet the requirements of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Conditions of Mobility of Researchers. This means that applicants can not apply for a position in a country where they have lived more than 12 months in the last 3 years.
